World Weightlifting Championships

Goyang City, Korea

 

Lifting in the World Championships in Goyang, Korea representing the USA in the 69 kg category, Sarah Bertram (26yo), placed 16th overall.   Making all 3 of her snatches, she created a new Oregon State record of 89 kg (196 lbs).  In the clean and jerk, she finished with 107 kg (235 lbs) winding up with a 196 total.   She is the first Oregon weightlifter ever to represent the USA in the World Weightlifting Championships, and represents the Heavy Athletics Weightlifting Club, training in Creswell, Oregon.

Lifting in the final World Championships Team qualifier, Sarah Bertram (26yo) needed her final clean and jerk with 109 kg to make the team.  She had a perfect day going, not missing a lift to that point, creating 3 new Oregon records.  She completed the final lift with 109, a weight she had never attempted before, assure herself of the opportunity to represent the USA.  Her final lifts were 88 in the snatch and 109 in the clean and jerk for a 197 total and a spot on the team.

 

The World Weightlifting Championships will take place in Goyang City, Korea on November 17-27, 2009.   Sarah Bertram has been training and competing for Heavy Athletics for 9 years and is the current National Champion in her weight category, 69kg.
